在外交或社交場合上的”失言”有兩個常用的表達方式
這兩個表達方式其實都是法文，英文直接借來使用(也就是外來語)
1.
gaffe (n.) an embarrassing mistake made in a social situation or in public
例句: The consul's comments were a major diplomatic gaffe.
2.
faux pas (n.) an embarrassing mistake in a social situation
例句: The State Department has conceded committing a diplomatic faux pas by sending birthday greetings to Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II a week early.
